New Book Asks: Can Democracy Work?

1/8/2019
Adolf Gundersen

In the title of a timely new work author James Miller asks Can democracy work?  –The answer, Miller argues, has never been obvious.

Since its origins in ancient Athens, democracy has been fragile.  It remains so today, Miller believes, beset by inequality, government secrecy, and numerous vexing problems that require international cooperation.  Yet he remains optimistic, especially about democratic participation.

Both Miller’s sober analysis and his grounds for enthusiasm are served up in an engaging, accessible style.
